{"id":131,"date":"2012-04-09T23:00:35","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T04:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/?p=131"},"modified":"2012-04-09T23:00:35","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T04:00:35","slug":"sql-2012-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cognitiveinfo.com\/?p=131","title":{"rendered":"SQL 2012 Study Materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This started as my personal list of study materials, but it bears sharing.\u00a0 I got started studying as I studied for the new SQL 2012 Beta Exams.\u00a0 You might still get a slot to try out the exams for free over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/borntolearn.mslearn.net\/btl\/b\/weblog\/archive\/2012\/03\/22\/register-for-sql-server-2012-beta-exams.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Born to Learn blog<\/a>\u00a0 Once you choose an exam, follow their link to see the specifics about the exam.\u00a0 Be sure to click on the &#8216;Skills Measured&#8217; tab.\u00a0 That will show what percent of the test covers different areas.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to take a look at the planned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/learning\/en\/us\/certification\/cert-sql-server.aspx#tab2\">certification paths for SQL 2012<\/a>.\u00a0 The paths have changed since 2008 and seem to allow more specialization.<\/p>\n<p>Next, since all of these tests are on SQL 2012, you need to go get the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/microsoft_press\/archive\/2012\/03\/15\/free-ebook-introducing-microsoft-sql-server-2012.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free e-book from Microsoft Press.<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For the exam I took, I used the &#8216;skills measured&#8217; to focus on just three of the chapters.<\/p>\n<p>Now that you&#8217;ve found a test and read the new book, you need to practice.\u00a0 Here you have a few options.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 You can download SQL 2012, install it and practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.1\u00a0 Read about the versions and download a trial here:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/sqlserver\/en\/us\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/sqlserver<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.2 Go get the famous &#8216;Adventure Works&#8217; sample databases and install them.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkID=220093\">http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkID=220093<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.3 Once you have your own install and the samples, there are some good tutorials published to help you work with new features.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh231699.aspx\">http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh231699.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2.
