{"id":482,"date":"2013-08-22T20:53:07","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T01:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/?p=482"},"modified":"2013-08-22T20:53:07","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T01:53:07","slug":"ssrs-2012-sharepoint-2013-integrated-mode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cognitiveinfo.com\/?p=482","title":{"rendered":"How to configure Reporting Services 2012 for SharePoint 2013 integrated mode"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These are my installation notes because I did not find a clear tutorial for configuring SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 on a SharePoint 2013 server in Integrated Mode.\u00a0 I found lots of SharePoint 2010 articles, but SharePoint has changed and now Reporting Services is actual a Service Application within the SharePoint farm.<\/p>\n<p>This post is aimed at setting up a single server development environment.\u00a0 It assumes you have already installed the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SharePoint 2013<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server 2012 SP1 (Enterprise or Developer)<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services for SharePoint<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre><strong>1. Install the SSRS Service in SharePoint.\u00a0<\/strong> \nThis is best done through SharePoint 2013 Management Shell by running the following commands:.<\/pre>\n<pre><span style=\"background-color: #c0c0c0;\">Install-SPRSService<\/span><\/pre>\n<pre><span style=\"background-color: #c0c0c0;\">Install-SPRSServiceProxy<\/span><\/pre>\n<pre><span style=\"background-color: #c0c0c0;\">get-spserviceinstance -all |where {$_.TypeName -like \u201cSQL Server Reporting*\u201d} | Start<\/span>-SPServiceInstance<\/pre>\n<p>Note, you will not get a response or acknowledgement from the first two commands.\u00a0 If you are the kind of person who needs affirmation, let me tell you you&#8217;re doing fine.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a screenshot. so far.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.00.39-PM.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-483\" alt=\"SharePoint Config Commands\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.00.39-PM-300x148.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Create the SSRS Service Application in the SharePoint Administrators site.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now that the service is installed and available to SharePoint, you can log into the SharePoint Admministrator site as an Administrator to create the application.<\/p>\n<p>2.1\u00a0 Click to open &#8216;Application Management Group&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>2.2 Click to open &#8216;Manage Service Applications&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>2.3 Click &#8216;New&#8217; button to create a new application and you should have a list of services that includes &#8216;SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>If SSRS is not in the list, then something was not installed properly or the PowerShell command did not start the service.\u00a0 I take back that affirmation, you need to go back to step 1.<\/p>\n<p>Your list should look like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.00.51-PM.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-484\" alt=\"SharePoint Service List\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.00.51-PM-164x300.jpg\" width=\"164\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2.4\u00a0 The &#8216;Create SQL Server Reporting Service Application&#8217; pop-up window requires some inputs as follows.<\/p>\n<p>Name:\u00a0 I named mine &#8216;SSRSdemo&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Application Pool name:\u00a0 I named mine &#8216;SSRSdemopool&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>First page of the pop-up should look like this:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.23.08-PM.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-485\" alt=\"SharePoint SSRS App1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.23.08-PM-300x239.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Web Application Association:\u00a0 Check the box so the SSRS is associated with the proper SharePoint site.\u00a0 If you only have one site, then you only have one choice like mine below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.17.12-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-487\" alt=\"SharePoint SSRS App2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.17.12-PM-300x238.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2.5\u00a0 Click &#8216;OK&#8217; to create the SSRS App.\u00a0\u00a0 Hopefully you get a success message like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.29.15-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-489\" alt=\"SharePoint App Success\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.29.15-PM-300x87.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"87\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2.6 Click &#8216;OK&#8217; to the message and your shiny new SSRS App will be listed in your Service Applications.\u00a0 To manage other settings you can click the App name.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.31.27-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-490\" alt=\"SharePoint Service Applications SSRS\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.31.27-PM-300x164.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Create a place for reports in the SharePoint user site.<\/p>\n<p>3.1\u00a0 Log in to the site with Admin credentials.<\/p>\n<p>3.2\u00a0 In SharePoint 2013, apps and libraries are added using the little gear symbol in the upper right corner.\u00a0 Click the gear and click &#8216;Add an App&#8217;.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.48.36-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-491\" alt=\"SharePoint Add an App\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.48.36-PM.jpg\" width=\"156\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3.3 From the list of Apps, click &#8216;Document Library&#8217;.\u00a0 I named mine &#8216;Reports&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.46.27-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-492\" alt=\"SharePoint Document Library\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.46.27-PM-300x170.jpg\" width=\"176\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3.4\u00a0 Once the App is created, you will be presented with an empty library.\u00a0 We need to change the library to accept SSRS items, so click the &#8216;Library Settings&#8217; button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.51.34-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-493\" alt=\"SharePoint 2013 Library Settings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.51.34-PM-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>3.5\u00a0 In the settings, click Advanced Settings so we can start managing the content types.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.52.12-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-494\" alt=\"oint 2013 Advanced Settings\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.52.12-PM-300x136.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n3.6\u00a0 Now you will have the option to select Content Types.\u00a0 Just under the list of settings, is a new section &#8216;Content Types&#8217;.\u00a0 Under that,\u00a0 Click &#8216;Add from existing site content types.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.58.25-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-496\" alt=\"SharePoint Content Types\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-4.58.25-PM-300x61.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"61\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3.7\u00a0 A new window opens with selector boxes allowing you to choose content types.<\/p>\n<p>Highlight in the left box and click Add to add the following types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Report<\/li>\n<li>Report Builder Model<\/li>\n<li>Report Builder Report<\/li>\n<li>Report Data Source<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It should now look as follows.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-5.01.25-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-497\" alt=\"3 with Report Library Items\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cognitiveinfo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-22-at-5.01.25-PM-300x119.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"119\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>3.8\u00a0 Done!<\/p>\n<p>You have now configured SharePoint 2013 to work with SQL Server Reporting Services in Integrated mode.<\/p>\n<p>You should now be able to deploy reports.\u00a0 In my example library above named &#8216;Reports&#8217; on a server named DEVBOX the deployment URL will be:\u00a0 http:\/\/devbox\/Reports<\/p>\n<p>If you want to separate shared data sources and data set files,\u00a0 you need to navigate to the empty library and use the Files menu &#8216;New Folder&#8217;
